  1. Also battery operated nailers today, most of them anyway, are air driven - hence Ryobi's moniker "Airstrike". The battery basically compresses a small charge that drives a piston essentially like a regular air nailer. The only difference is you carry a micro compressor with the tool. That's also why they are bulkier than air nailers too, but you don't have a hose pulling on your tool either which adds to the weight equation.
  2. That's funny. I actually own an Airstrike 18g brad and I have to dial it back because it will put a 2" brad too deep if you let it... I've put probably 2k brads through mine so far and not a single time did I need a hammer to set a one. The thing is almost scary it's so consistent to be honest. The Airstrike is a bargain beast and on a 4.0 battery you'll be done before the tool is.
  3. Maybe start out with the Airstrike 18g brad nailer to see how you like it. It's the cheapest and one of the most liked battery operated models at just over $100, you can get a charger and battery all in for under $200. Use it a while in conjunction with the compressor and you can be your own best judge. If it doesn't measure up you have a nice nailer you can use in a pinch when not wanting to break out the air and not a huge amount invested in it. If you like it you can add more guns as you go.
  4. Maybe apps to control the behavior of tools etc.
  5. Lol, the guys watching and laughing were great.
  6. Like the blades the screw thread might be going opposite what you are used to. You might be tightening it while you think you are loosening it.
  7. Is the backwards flange digging into the black washer underneath, it looks like plastic? Is it shredding it, looks like black confetti all around the flange.
  8. Also make sure you have the blade on the right way. Some circular saws are right and some are left handed. Make sure the blade is rotating the correct way.
  9. What happens between Dan and life-sized-Eric-cutout stays in Dan's garage. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Also this coming from the guy who wants to be alone in the wilderness with his Milwaukee hammer drill with the chuck he's always sticking things in?
  10. Lol, on Periscope I told Dan to make a life sized Eric to stand next to him for videos when Eric is away on vacation. Maybe an Eric in carbonite...
  11. When does the coupon expire and when do you need these tools? I ask because I think next month Milwaukee is releasing their new updated Fuel 2.0 drills and drivers. For just a drill and impact driver the current ones are pretty great all around but they are getting bumps in torque and going to three speeds on the impact drivers plus a self tapping mode and the impact wrenches are going three speeds plus a 1 second burst mode which is great for using the wrench when tightening down bolts where you want an even amount of twist on each. In any event he current kits at discount can be great deals and that would get you started on the platform and have the batteries to go with the new wrenches when they drop.
  12. Yeah I was shocked how hard the tile was. It was one of those gray 12x24 gray HD tiles. I was impressed how durable the glaze was. I don't know how they can sell them for $1.99 ft^2. After some experimentation I found it was best to use the masonry bit to make a hole in the glaze and then switch to the diamond core bit so it wouldn't be able to walk out.
  13. Yeah even if you simply made a workbench top with precision holes drilled for dogs etc. you'd know it was dead true every way and make building stuff a lot simpler. I'm hand assembling lots of complicated Victorian trim and I can't believe how guys did this stuff 100 years ago by hand..
  14. I've been strangely mesmerized watching Dan make some nice signs on his X-Carve. I think after the X-Carve gets dialed in the possibilities are endless and much more complicated . Some cool things I've come across are: A jig saw puzzle loader toy: http://www.wood-jigsaw-puzzles.com/free-wood-jigsaw-puzzle-plans/free-dxf-loader-jigsaw-puzzle-wood-plans-for-cnc/ A cool kerf chair: http://thedesignhome.com/2013/05/kerfchair-by-boris-goldberg/ Maybe a tool box or even custom tool organizers for the old toolbox. What would you guys make?
  15. True. I think I'm still grumpy from drilling porcelain
  16. You can paint a house with q-tips but that doesn't mean I'd want to do it that way It will surly work in a pinch but as someone who recently had to drill a dozen+ 1/4" holes in ridiculously hard porcelain tile for a glass shower install where I couldn't brute force it for fear of cracking the tiles I'm all for drilling things the right way. I used a Milwaukee fuel hammer drill and brand new Bosch masonry bits alternating with a Milwaukee diamond hole bit and it still was borderline torture
  17. You'd probably wear out the carbide chisel on the mortar bit prematurely or break it outright. Carbide is only used on the tips of bits because it is brittle but exceedingly hard. If you look at a mortar bit it really is just a little chisel on the tip that's designed to chip away the concrete from an axial force being applied by the hammer of the drill. Just torquing it, a la impact driver/wrench, and you're just twisting the chisel and not hammering it in. Also that's why diamond bits are supposed to just be spun without the hammer action. Abrasion cut vs. chisel out. I'm no expert on the physics involved but that's the way I understand it.
  18. Right about now I'm really wishing there was a "bad pun" button on these forums
  19. In any event July 30th can't get here soon enough. This key thing has my curiosity piqued!
  20. Dan is a crazy man running around the middle of the night eating Pico, CNCing and showing off, and subsequently breaking and then repairing, his Lego builds lol...
  21. Grinding discs can be had for so cheap it doesn't make a ton of sense to not use the right one for the job.
  22. Yeah it's always good to see someone enjoying their new toys
  23. Makes sense. I do wonder if we're gonna get some leaks before the embargo is lifted though.
