That sucks. We just went through a similar scenario over Thanksgiving. Had to close out the accounts and start from scratch. Like you said this is becoming all too common. It's more surprising to find someone that hasn't been a victim of fraud. My wife and I have taken measures to limit electronic payments and pay cash whenever we can but still manage to be victimized.

I can't even imagine the utility bills. I would be even worried about water and moisture getting into the drywall. There has to be mold in the place at this point.

Floors look great. Nice idea on re purposing the scraps on the workbench. The material is pretty hard and impervious to staining. Just don't get any standing water on it.

What's the best way to check for flatness? The room is essentially 12x7. My thought is to take the 4' level and make sure it's level. Once I establish level, I then take a piece of material no thicker 1/8" and see if I can slide it under the level in various locations on the floor? Any dips will then be identified right?
