    Shop help.

In the first shop that I built for myself, I was trying to keep costs to a minimum and used a cathedral truss to give myself some extra headroom. While this worked well enough, in the long run it caused some issues with fixtures added in at later dates. The expansion onto this shop was built with ten foot studs and a flat ceiling. The difference in cost wasn't major in the overall scheme of things, and ended up allowing me to install some overhead equipment that would not have happened with an eight foot height. I also used a four foot fan in one end of my first shop and it was a god send in the summer, but also became a dust trap that needed regular cleaning. You would also need to check local regulations about placement and would probably not want to point one towards a property line of any neighbors. General wind direction should also be considered. If you are going to be spraying any finishes, you should also look into a non spark version with appropriate motor with filters in front of it. As previously stated, outside storage is not a good idea, but a compressor shed/lean to might be to control noise and keep the elements off of it.

    Makita x2 Saw

Heh, if that had included two batteries, I would have been buying them out of that tool... Even so, you could buy two of those, get the batts and then sell the extra saw. Tools Plus is also advertising this saw at $149: http://www.tools-plus.com/makita-xsh01z.html

    Makita x2 Saw

Found this at ACME: http://www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/makita-18v-x2-lxt-7-1-4-inch-circular-saw-xsh01z How the mighty have fallen... $149 for the xsh01z Their site seems to be broken for me though. Links or sub pages not working. Couldn't test whether or not the 10% off code would work on this one.

    the New Beast

You are allowed to edit your post to correct that, ya know. We won't hold it against you.
  5. Lowes carries the lenox blade in my area. Was looking at it two days ago when I was picking up a dry cut blade.
  6. Yes, well done. Helps keep the faith that someday I too might win something on this internets thingy.
  7. I have to blame 77Ford for this one. Went to the local HD and asked if they would honor the HF 20% off and after it getting kicked up to the assistant manager and me being able to 'cough' honestly state that I could show that another store had already honored it for the same item, she reluctantly agreed to do so. So now I too have one of those flex um whatchamacallits, and my tool budget really is shot for the next few months... I almost feel bad about it. uhm yeah, really...
  8. I noticed the 745 on sale at the local Lowes this morning for $296 & change.
  9. Back in '97, I took a bullet through my upper right arm from someone else' supposedly empty 9mm automatic. Nothing like two and a half years of reconstruction and recovery to narrow ones focus on safety issues. Murphy's Law will catch you when you least expect it and mess up your day.
  10. I like how in the picture it shows the operator dropping hot sparks all over that canvas bag on the floor... ;/
  11. I picked up a super hawg for 314 & change. Didn't think I would find it for any less than that in the near future. Could have paid less for an open box model, but I have never had any luck with open box items.
  12. I only have one tool that needed the adapter, one of the original mini sliding miter saws. The power from the lithium battery is so much better than the ni-cad ever was. I never was a fan of the 18v pod packs and was using Panasonic drills during that time frame. You just have to pay attention and change it out as soon as you notice any power drop, so as to protect the battery itself.
  13. Tools Plus ground shipping for this sale has been awesome... The items I ordered last Saturday showed up yesterday, and the items I ordered late Monday are listed as out for delivery today. That is shipping from the east coast to Indiana. Again, great shipping response time.
  14. I have one of those adapters and while it is a bit rough around the edges, it does the job. Like some of the reviews on it state, it can be tough to remove from some tools due to the retaining clip design, and the tool that I use it on requires that it be removed in order to change batteries. Just a FYI. This is one of those items that I wish that Makita had taken the time to develop and produce.
  15. And somehow I do not feel sorry for the actual owner of the other vehicle. I feel they need to be taken to task for allowing the knucklehead to drive their vehicle. And I feel your pain, having had a somewhat similar situation in the past.
  16. Riddle me this: When the tool is switched off, does it release the firing cylinder from its ready to fire state?

    Good Makita Sale!

I just used mine yesterday to drive an eight foot 5/8" ground rod. Made short easy work of it.
  18. I would like to say great video as well. There was one issue I had though... Every time you placed your hand over the live end of the tool, towards the end of your presentation, I cringed. In any review, tool safety, in my opinion, is king, and holding on to a nail gun by the live end seems a bit disrespectful of its capacity for injury, even when not powered up. Sort of along the lines of gun safety in general.

    junk tools

If you are using compressed air to dust out your power tools at any time, you should never do so while the tool is running. Doing so while running a power tool of any type will accelerate the wear and tear on components by a large factor, especially one with brushes. This includes running compressed air through a tool in a manner that causes the armature to spin. Also limiting the air pressure when dusting out a tool can be a good idea as well. Many tools use shielded bearings instead of sealed, and high pressure air can force dust and debris into those bearings, shortening the life.
  20. The Tools Plus sale ends today. They had several brands of power tools at ten percent off, which is pretty solid for some of the higher priced items. There were also some hand tool brands at fifteen percent off and a few other brands at five percent. I picked up a couple of Milwaukee tools and two Stiletto items to fill out some empty spots in my collection. Destroyed my tool budget a bit early this year.
  21. Tools Plus starts their annual tool sale tomorrow. http://www.tools-plus.com/tool-a-rama.html Decent company to purchase from. I personally have never had any issues when buying from them, and this sale is usually a reminder for me that the holiday tool sale season is just around the corner.
  22. How to veneer your roof in one easy lesson...
  23. Looks like they might have learned from the design errors in the original model. With the handle set to the rear of the batteries, you might be able to apply some decent force if needed. The old model's hand positions are much too close together, and made the unit somewhat unwieldy in use as well as difficult to apply a rocking motion through the cut. Can't wait to see this up close.
  24. That man is insane, and that is some scary shit at the start. I think a chainsaw would have been a better way to start that project.
