  1. What I am buying seems pretty durable but should try some sande ply for other things. Looks like it should edge sand really nice. On another note my order of "Jorgensen" F clamps showed up at Ace Hardware today. Went to pick them up and they were chinese Bessey clamps. Really poor quality. So I made them send them back. Grizzly is closing Jorgensens out so ordered five 24" clamps and six 6" clamps to fill up my rack. Similar price but cost me $18 freight.
  2. You know there is something to be said about less tools. Cough cough... Honestly, I was once a wizard with a small selection of tools and because I used them a lot and knew how they responded. There is a huge benefit to familiarity. I now have tools that I rarely use and I am a beginner each time I pull them off the shelf. The truth is if you have a decent table saw, a router, a few ounces of patience and a decent functioning brain you can do anything you want.
  3. John, I remember you using that at one time. It was right next to the birch I bought and was $10 a sheet cheaper. I was just not sure if it would hold up to humidity changes (garage shop) and also how durable to dings it would be compared to what I am using. I built some tops out of a mix of MDF and Plywood when I first got started out there and because of humidity and MDF and plywood expanding at different rates it ended up cupping and became firewood a year later. I am sure the sande Plywood would be better as it is alternating types but was concerned. On the far side of my garage I actually wash cars so the humidity can be high!
  4. Cindy loves the Festool stuff. When I built my house I custom ordered the windows with the correct jamb width to fit my 6" walls and extra foam insulation on the exterior. Marvin Windows screwed up the order and made all the jambs 9/16" to wide. It was "my fault" because I signed off on it even though they had the print and quoted them wrong. The option was to send them back which would delay the house build by about 5 weeks, not to mention they wanted us to pay the shipping and modification cost. Just wasn't an option... Track saw to the rescue! Contractors brought the windows and doors into the garage one at a time and I ripped them down. The cut was as clean as the factory cut. The jambs were pin nailed and I cut a dozen pins but did not care. In the end I dont think the blade was damaged at all.
  5. Shhhhh. My wife might find this forum. You do know it takes a laser level, TOTL drill/driver and Woodpeckers ruler just to hang a picture right?
  6. I buy everything at Menards but no longer buy nice Plywood there. Mostly because the veneer is too thin compared to the Home Depot stuff. They just started carrying cherry, walnut and maple hardboard too. The Birch plywood from HD can be sanded and is beautiful. The Menards stuff sand through too easy. I would much rather buy at Menards but make a special strip for this stuff.
  7. Yea I would like Auriou. That was the frigging outragious price I was referring to. Supposed to be the hot setup. I have never even seen one in person.
  8. I have not used a shoulder plane many times but when I did I held the body of the plane and never by the handle. So not sure I would put the vertitas second handle to use. I doubt you would go wrong with either. Honestly, it appears to me the main difference between the Lie Nielsen and others is the out of box experience as far as being 100% ready and not just 98%. I have stuff in my Lie Nielsen shopping cart but just cant seem to pull the trigger. I need some rasp and their price on them is similar to other re-sellers (frigging outrageous ) !
  9. Great idea on the sheath. Marking gauges are the way to go for a lot of reasons. We learn ways to measure that build in a lot of cumulative error. I am trying to retrain myself to do things differently. I think the router plane will be handy. I have needed one about three times in the last two weeks and did not have it. I am loving this scraper plane. I have used it to clean up some 3/4 wide facing that I would have rounded off with sandpaper and the grain was to irregular for a normal plane. This things rocked !
  10. Some of the felders I looked at were over 13,000.
  11. Way beyond powermatic quality. Their tablesaws are to die for but very expensive.
  12. This came today. Been on order for about 7 weeks. Typical Lie Nielsen A+++
  13. I have had my clamps in this spot for a while but have been just clamping them to a shelf. The improvement this go around is that I do not have to unscrew them. They are not clamped to anything. The blocks with fingers are placed at a height that captures the fixed head of clamp. So they just slide in and cant tip because of the tight tolerance. You will notice every type of clamps has a different finger block height. The only exception to this is a couple odd clamps on far right which I do have clamped
  14. Made some brackets with UHMW on the sides to hold the FastCap Rails for my miter saw and got the clamp rack mounted to wall. Have to polyurethane a couple mounts and it will be done. Then can move on to tool cabinet.
  15. He might have been talking about not being able to make cuts with the other saws dust free like that. Even though they have dust extractors, the dust collection does not do as well. I think they do produce similar cuts. Very cool live edge !
  16. There are a ton of guys that use them in the field. But it would be more specialty trim carpenters in my opinion. If you cant make a mess at your customers house then Festool is it. I dont think anyone will argue there is nothing better for capturing the mess.
  17. That is what I am using. I assume you are talking about the actual Fast Cap mounts?
  18. Looks great. You have some seriously long FastCap rails!
  19. Yes, I figured holding the camera was quite a challenge ! The only time I tried that I left about 1/16" at most and cut it with a knife and sanded. Looks like a super handy Jig Tony.
  20. LOL, I was thinking firewood! You must be better at re-purposing wood than I am?
  21. Scrap I used on back edge of boards while cutting to prevent tear-out. Not much left of it. All cut up.
  22. Looks like it works great. Any issues when you come to the end?
  23. Oh it was a fair comment. As far as bang for buck scale I am off the chart for too much money/not enough use ! Now for my least favorite part.
  24. @Framer joeDefinitely not contractor use. But for anyone that needs ultimate precision and great dust collection. It comes at a price. The Systainers would not be good for job contractor beating around although they are tougher than they look. Everything they sell is great stuff. Only question would be if its worth it. My Festool stuff never leaves my shop and friends know better than to ask to borrow it.
