  1. In addition to the framing nailer, I would love to get a 2 battery cordless table saw.
  2. You could always use the JobPlus multitool with the JobMax reciprocating saw head. That's what I do.
  3. Does anyone here have any experience with this? I was in the market for a thickness planer and someone on Craigslist has this for sale. It comes with the thickness planer and a stand and he is asking for $230. From the pictures it looks to be in great condition. Of course the guy has to live out in the middle of no where so it'll take me almost 1.5 hours to get there 😑.
  4. I finally found some time to test out the batteries. I used one to drill (6) 1/2" holes 4" deep with the rotary hammer and the battery went down one notch. I then used that and another one like it in my rear handle circular saw and made close to a dozen cuts. After all was said and done, one battery was still full and the other one at 3 of 4. So far I am happy with them, but still I would only get them if the genuine ones were not on sale.

    Battery Adapter

I do not currently own any Ryobi tool that I would consider high draw. For such tools I would usually go with Makita, but I do plan to perhaps get a Ryobi shop vac and miter saw one day. However I may go with the Makita miter saw if they have a good deal on it like they did earlier this year (IIRC it was around $400 and it came with (4) 5aH batteries). If and when I get those, we'll see what happens. All my other high draw tools i.e. reciprocating saw, circular saw and rotary hammer are Makita.

    Battery Adapter

Idk what a "star battery" is, but I have used a genuine Makita 5aH battery and I do see a star on it if that is what you are talking about. I used it on my Ryobi lantern and it worked just fine.

    Battery Adapter

So far I have only noticed two potential issues with this adapter. First is that it adds some length to the battery as you can see to the picture. On the majority of tools that is a non issue, but on a few tools i.e. the circular saw; that makes this unusable. The circular saw is designed so the the back of the battery sits nearly flush with the wall of the battery compartment so any additional length cannot be accommodated. Thankfully that is not an issue with me since I don't use the Ryobi circular saw. A second slightly more serious issue is that the back of the adapter seems to be a little off so that the battery can rock back and forth a little bit and occasionally that can cause a power interruption. It is likely only going to be a problem on tools that vibrate a lot i.e. a reciprocating saw. When I have time I am going to try putting a little epoxy or something like that in the well where the battery lock goes and see if that won't solve the problem, I imagine it will though.

    Battery Adapter

How's that? As you can see, because of the increase in thickness (this is with a 6aH battery) the pump no longer sits on the floor, but it seems to work fine regardless.
  9. Yeah, but this means that you only need one tool instead of two. Why have a corded tool when you can have one that can be corded, but doesn't have to be?

    SDS Plus Bits

The only bit I have ever used is the one from Harbor Freight Tools and it has worked just fine. It was a great value imo.

    Battery Adapter

Anyone ever used this Makita to Ryobi battery adapter? I got one recently and so far it seems to work well although I have barely tested it yet. I am primarily a Ryobi user, but after getting this I plan to switch to Makita for batteries and certain heavy duty tools i.e. the circular saw. So far I have only tested it out on my Ryobi lantern (I didn't dare use any of my other tools because it was 2:00 a.m. and I didn't want to wake up my roommates) and it worked perfectly. I will update this thread when I test it out more.
  12. I just picked up that set last week and it was $250. I believe it is some sort of closeout sale since they told me that they were not getting anymore after they sold the remaining stock. Thankfully I was able to pickup a reciprocating and circular saw, although I had to go to almost every Home Depot in my area. Considering the bare tool is only $50 less, I feel like only a madman would not get the set. I was able to sell the batteries and chargers ( I have enough of both) and was able to almost make my money back.
  13. I just got the 2 battery reciprocating saw and I intended to get the rear handle circular saw but it was sold out. Both are on sale right now, you get the tool, 4 5ah batteries, a 2 battery charger and a bag for about $250. I also ordered the 1 battery rotary hammer, but it has yet to arrive. I plan to try the knock offs out on those tools, but I am pretty busy with work and family obligations right now. I am hoping to be able to test out the tools and batteries this weekend.
  14. I got the 2 battery reciprocating saw because of the awesome deal. I got it with 4 5ah batteries, a two battery charger and a bag for about $250. I wanted to get the rear handle circular saw as well with the same things for the same price, but it was sold out. As far as the impact driver and drill go, I'll stick with Ryobi since they work fine for me and are much cheaper.
  15. I feel like the wanting to limit the amount of tool lines you are in is a big factor. I used Ryobi for my cordless tools exclusively until recently for that very reason among others. Recently I was in need of a powerful rotary hammer, and Ryobi doesn't make one. Thankfully I found an adapter online that allows me to use Makita batteries on Ryobi tools. I am now planning to switch to Makita for my batteries, but I still plan on using Ryobi for most of my cordless tools, I just feel like they are a better value; but I do plan to buy Makita for heavy duty tools i.e. the circular saw, rotary hammer and the reciprocating saw.
  16. I really wish someone would do a shootout of all the different 10"/12" cordless miter saws. I am currently deciding between the Makita and Ryobi cordless miter saws. I imagine the Makita one is better, I am just not sure if it is better by enough to justify the $200+ price difference. I am deciding between those two because I already have batteries from those companies.
  17. It's too bad you live in New Zealand. Here in America, Home Depot is selling the 2 battery rear handle (similar in appearance to a worm drive) Makita circular saw with a 2 battery charger and 4 5ah batteries for about $350 (about 480 NZD). That circular saw is among the best if not the best cordless circular saw on the market today and I am planning to get one today.
  18. I just got a pair of knock offs. I haven't used them much yet, but so far they seem to work just fine. I have a knock off Ryobi battery and that one has worked well for about 6 months now.
  19. Are Delta table saws good? I am asking because I do not have any experience with that brand and someone is selling one for $60. I have asked for more details but have yet to hear back. This is a link to the site.

    Battery & charger

That seems odd. I have had some of those for years now and they still work fine. I have also never had a charger die on me and most of mine are also years old. Maybe I'm just really lucky.

    Knock Off Batteries

So far I have only used the battery on a few applications and only one of them was anything close to hard. So far I have used it on my impact driver to drive some small screws, my drill to drill a few small holes and on my impact wrench to drive some large lag bolts. So far it has performed flawlessly and the only complaint I have is that the label isn't stuck on well (a very minor complaint, I know).
  22. I just got a set as a gift. I am glad to hear what SetBuilder said.

    Knock Off Batteries

I am hoping that I will get to test it out soon, especially on my new cordless brushless 7-1/4" circular saw. Hopefully on Monday, by then I should be finished moving and the holidays will be over; but I am off from work.
