tugnut1 Posted February 9, 2017 Report Posted February 9, 2017 I went to this guy yesterday who has a woodmizer and usually has a lot of wood stacked up. I don't know if I would call him a mill, but I go there every few months to pickup some rough cut lumber. I bought some red cedar to build my second chair and a couple pieces of 8/4 Walnut just because it was laying around. Once I got home, I was inspired to clean some boards up from a previous visit to him. I cleaned up a good deal of the spalted maple that I got from him and then two other boards that I wasn't sure what they were. All of the boards look grey and weathered when I get them home and its kinda rough to see what their grains look like and sometimes the condition of the boards can be a bit obscured as well. The last two boards that I did last night, I'm not really sure what they are. I remember picking them up because he said they had some spalted figure in them. These boards are pretty light and the colors are just awesome. Maybe its just me (because I have some color blindness), but the blue and oranges just pop on these boards. I carried them upstairs just to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. My wife confirmed the board has a lot of blue in it. Now she wants me to make her something with them, but I don't think I have enough to do anything of any significance. 1 Quote
JimboS1ice Posted February 9, 2017 Report Posted February 9, 2017 wow what interesting grain coloration and pattern, maybe a live edge book shelf or something you could leave the majority of those planks in tact 1 Quote
jtkendall Posted February 9, 2017 Report Posted February 9, 2017 Cut one edge off of each board, make a panel from remainder, add legs and enjoy a new coffee table.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote
SetBuilder Posted February 9, 2017 Report Posted February 9, 2017 I owned a tree svc for about 12 years. I used to cringe when I saw blue streaks in wood as it usually meant there was metal in the tree and we were going to wack up a bunch of chains blocking up the wood. I never saw blue streaks naturally, but every area has different species of trees. Quote
Atlas2000 Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 For some reason I am not able to view pictures right now, but from other comments it sounds like some beautiful wood. Quote
