What's the situation with the 18v DeWalt tools over there? Over here, they claim that the 18v stuff will be going away (though the big box store still carry a ton of it) and the 20v Max stuff is the future, I dunno. I'm not exactly a good person to seek advice from... I just bought into my third battery platform (M12 and M18 Milwaukee, 18v Makita LXT, and would not be at all surprized that buy summer was into the Ingersol Rand 20v (and possible 12v) IQv systems... If I were starting over, I'm not sure but what I might just go with the Makita stuff. The only thing they seem to be lacking is a super-mondo heavy duty impact wrench. They sure seem to be stepping up their game lately, with the Godzilla drill and more impact drivers than you can shake a stick at...

I've been looking at a 1/4 sheet sander, nearly pulled the trigger on a Mikata or DeWalt. What is the advantage of a 1/2 sheet over a 1/4 sheet? Able to sand large flat surfaces more effectively?

I figure a good rule of thumb (excluding the tool boxes) is that the only HF items I'll buy are made in Tiawan. I'll mostly skip most of the Chinese and all of the India made stuff.

I have a couple of ratchets and a floor jack, my son has a screwdriver set and a pocket tape. I am pretty choosy what I get there, but what I like I really like.

Well, now, footwear... Everyday work boots are Danner Pronghorns, and I'm thinking about picking up a pair with more insulation. Non-work shoes are Georgia Boot Romeos or Nike running shoes (not that I run in them...).
