    A new helper.

I think this one may be a keeper. He has really taken to the tools and using his hands. He helped my electrical guy drill and pull wire.
  2. A few years back when I was working shift work and I was at the doctors for high blood pressure he ask me how much coffee I drank I told him 1 or 2. Doc said cups I said pots he said I should start their to try to cut back. Still trying

    A new helper.

The alarm went off at 4:45 this morning and the first this I hear, give the kid a chance. I look over at the wife with my what are you talking about look. You know what I mean. You always go on about nobody wants to get in to the trades so give him a chance. My answer we’ll see. 5:45am he is knocking on my door cooler in hand and ready to work. While driving to the job I ask him how much he thinks I should pay him, his answer my dad told me I should be paying you. “I like this kid” We get to the job, we get setup, and I start to talk to him. I know that you have none to very little experience in construction so let me tell you my number one rule. ASK QUESTIONS if you don’t understand what I’m ask you to do or don’t know how to do what I’m asking ASK ME. You would rather have me think you are stupid then to remove all the doubt. Besides answering a million questions and not getting the amount of work done that I wanted to be done, this kid worked his ass off never gave me a hard time about anything. While driving home I asked him if he wanted to work Tuesday and without any hesitation, he said yes. You don’t even know what we will be doing or what I’m paying you. His answer I don’t care I’m learning something that I really can use.
  4. Nice work on the closet Harold. You have your worked cut out for on the bathroom. Keep us posted also, how old is your house.

    A new helper.

My wife works at the local community college and one of the professors invited us to party late night. While there, the professor’s son asked me if I needed a helper this summer. I know that he is going to school to be and architect so I asked if he has every worked in construction. The answer “NO.” Now I have a bathroom tear out and convert it to a laundry room that I’m going to start tomorrow. I told him that since you are out of school for a few weeks I could use him now. He said ok. Then I proceed to tell him ok you can meet me at my house at 6 or the job at 6:30 pack a lunch and something to drink and to wear boots and not tennis shoes. All he keep asking is “you start that late in the day and you bring your lunch” his father started to laugh when I said No in the AM and if you are late don’t bother coming at all. This should be an interesting day wish me luck or pray for me.
  6. Thank god for a minute I thought that I would have to stop drinking

    Festool Video

I don't know about you guys but I have never worked underwater but have been caught out in the driving rain where my tools are drenched and they worked fine till the job was finished and to this day they still run and work fine
  9. Today at the wood workers show I saw something that I would have bought if I did not have one but , then again I still might go back and pick it up to keep in my truck. I already have a festool track saw and I like it but this track saw that I saw today is great. What I like about is for one is that the track is a heavier gauge aluminum extrusion and a matching universal adapter plate that allows you to use any circular saw. The starter kit comes with everything needed to mount any circular saw and cut boards up to 8 feet long. Kit includes both 57in and 48in TrueTrac rails, universal adapter plate, self-aligning connectors, and anti-chip edging. The guy doing the demo used a Makita circular saw and a Milwaukee 18v fuel circular saw. I tried it out using both saw and it was very nice the cut was just as good as my festool.
  10. Come on now who doesn’t want to look fabulous while they are working.
  11. Well Chris you must have a crystal ball. After cleaning the drive ways, sidewalks, cars and what ever else of snow today I did not make it to the show but I will be their early Saturday.
  12. The Festool track saw is the best by far the way the plunge works and the way it glides on the track is second to none. Starting tomorrow the Wood Workers show rolls into town for 3 days and all of the tool reps will be here so I should have a good time of it Friday afternoon. I'm leaving the credit cards and cash at home. Well that's what I'm tell the wife
  13. Welcome DJSlater! enjoy your time here and always ask before you buy.
  14. I get what you are saying. I would chuckle every time I would see a 18v caulking gun. Then we had a job replacing 50 windows 82" x 42" That $15.00 RYOBI Came in real handy. If I had to pay $190 for the Milwaukee my helper would have had sore hands by the end of the day. Tools are one of those things you can never have to many of. My wife ask me do you really need all of those nail guns when I was taken pictures for my insurance, and I ask her to define need.
  15. From Milwaukee', service center web page you can save $70. if you buy the kit PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION UNIT PRICE 48-10-5600 PLUNGE BASE $154.00
  16. Today my friend Ike (the cabinetmaker) and I where install a front door that he had made for a costumer of mine and I pulled out my bargain table RYOBI 18v caulking gun. He asks why I bought it. Why not, for $15.00, I could not pass it up and the Milwaukee is $190.00. Then we got to talking about the price of tools and if we get our money’s worth. I ask him if his Festool tools are overpriced. He said that they are great tools but feels that most of their tools are overpriced. He pointed out the Domino XL joiner fantastic tool but not $1275.00 fantastic and you have to use their cutters $50 /$60 a pop and the tenon’s are $50/$95 a pack and some packs have 18 others have 100 depends on the size. Track saw not bad sorry he bought the Miter saw likes his DeWalt and Bosch more and the routers, good but other brands are just as good, and he really likes their sanders and vac’s. Then he was talking about his father using a homemade table saw and hand drills in the shop for years and did beautiful work. It is not always the tools that make the job; it has a lot to do with the person using the tools. That started a lively conversation.
  17. I really don't plan on buying any new tools this year. If I buy anything this year I would like to get DeWalts Hand Held Radar Scanner Kit if they can get it right.
  18. I think that you guys maybe mistaken. That is not a wire stripper but a wire tie cutter. So when you go to your buddy’s house and he has used wire ties as a way to lock the frigid you can cut them off to get yourself a beer. Just guessing, good review ChrisK
  19. Congratulations to all the winners from the forum. Dan and Eric go out of their way to make this a fun place for us to hang out and have some fun.
  20. We had some people over tonight and I introduced them to Southern Culture on the Skids
  21. Same to you and everyone else here at TIA. Lets hope that you have a very slow night Chris.
