  1. The Tekton elf came again today: This time I actually might have something to complain about. I think there's a plating flaw on the 18mm socket. See it? Also there's this. It's not a tool I bought, per se, but it is new: In this case I can literally say I did not buy this wrench rack. I made it out of a piece of firewood: This is part of the toolchest organization project. All the commercial wrench racks would have left empty slots. Now I have two more to make for my other two wrench sets. I'm pleased with how it came out, though. It's oak, nice and heavy, so it doesn't shift around in the drawer when I pick up a wrench.

  2. A couple weeks ago I mentioned wanting to get the Flexvolt table saw, well in the time since I haven't been able to find a good deal on it. Acme Tools has a $20 off Dewalt code, but it doesn't work on Flexvolt. I noticed they had a Flexvolt specific deal though, buy a 2 battery kit and get an additional 6Ah for free. Well I decided to hold off on the table saw and bought the circular saw kit instead because I spend $100 less than on the table saw kit and I get three batteries. Now I can just buy the bare tool table saw in a couple of weeks or win the one Pro Tool Reviews is giving away. The only problem I ran into is they shipped me a standard 20v Max 2Ah battery instead of the Flexvolt in the promo, called and got that taken care of and the third battery should be here later this week with a return label.

  8. I build websites and iPhone applications for a living. I started building websites in middle school and just never stopped. Went to college for digital design in 2005, graduated in 2007 and was working for a small company. We built projects for the BBC and several other large companies. I quit in 2010 over Christmas break because of all the stress the were causing and the late paychecks. From 2010-2011 I did freelance work for individuals and companies. In 2011 I started my own design and development company with my brother, it can be hit or miss with work because smaller businesses want everything and the kitchen sink for the price of a coffee and larger businesses want a team bigger than two people. I've been interested in metalworking and woodworking lately and want to turn that into a side project or next career. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. I have been in construction all my working life. I would go on jobsites with my dad when I was 8 or 9. Worked at a remodeling company during high school and full time my freshman year of college. Decided I loved construction and quit school and haven't looked back. In 2001 I started my company along with 2 other partners. One guy left quite awhile ago and it is just myself, my partner, and a helper. We build custom homes and do remodeling work.

  15. Thanks hope to get my planer/joiner cabinet done soon and of course get my planer and joiner lol.. Cutech has some very good looking options does anyone have any experience with them? I know they are pretty new but the owner has been around for a while and been a part of some good companies. The price is very competitive but they come with helical cutters so that's a huge bonus in my opinion

  17. NPS17 was reasonable for plumbers, electricians etc. To an extent trim guys as well. It was mostly upgrades to things that were long in the tooth. No response to FlexVolt. I expect the Dewalt event to impress me more than NPS17 (and NPS17 impressed me slightly more than I expected it to).

Worked at their Nuclear plant for 5 years in the weld shop then moved over to the Gas construction side as a pipe line mechanic and welder then moved up crew leader then foreman. These days I have returned to my roots and have my own remodeling company.

  24. Well hummmm, let's see... My old man has was a licensed builder all my life and I can recall being on his jobs since I was about 6. My grandfather on my mother's side was a general contractor, my uncle(dad's brother) a general contractor and building inspector, another uncle (stepmom's brother) a carpenter and tile guy, well you get the gist, I'm from a family of builders. So out of high school I got into home electronic and appliance sales(makes sense right?), which led into home theater installation, which led in part to custom commercial AV systems and TV repair. I worked for a very large company doing this and had a corporate card with basically an unlimited tool budget as long as it was justified to do my job(that was nice just saying). Well the company which is primarily retail had a crummy year and they started looking for reasons to reduce head count, apparently doing what your boss tells you to do is a way to get fired(corporate bean counters got me for letting my assistant do my paperwork)..... So I fell back on my DNA and started doing work for my uncle (stepmom's Brother), my dad and other uncle have retired or got old whatever... Over the past couple years I've mostly worked on additions, roofs, siding, remodeling, home maintenance and repairs. Two winter's ago my brother in law asked me to help him on a remodel and we've been working steadily ever since, he started a damage mitigation company last summer with his buddy but since he has become the the sole owner and me the sole employee. Between damage mitigation jobs we also general contract all kinds of stuff with him as the "GC" and me the on site "foreman" which is a glorified way of saying I'm there to work, answer the questions for our sub contractors, and keep our random laborers busy. We currently are building a custom lake home, a pole barn, remodeling a fire damaged home and have 4 roofs on the books. Shameless plug for our website: http://firewindandwater.com

  25. Electronics repair, TVs mostly but I am also the only one that works on reel to reel machines at the shop and apparently in most of Florida. You'd think reel to reels would be pretty uncommon but I've repaired and sent out eight machines this year, have four at the shop in line and one waiting on parts. Also work on low vision machines, apparently that's really rare too...I have a guy driving down to Tampa from the panhandle, no one in Georgia or Alabama works on them, I'm the closest one. Other than reel to reels, I do a little bit of audio stuff; occasionally mixers, turntables and amps.

  26. I started my career sweeping floors, during summer holidays, and part time while in school, the year I finished school they offered me an apprenticeship in the machine shop, 4 short years later I became one of the youngest Journeyman A inter provincial machinist. back then only needed grade 10 to get into trades. I continued as a machinist for 7 years, I then was offered to train to become a fabrication engineer, back to trade school and continued as a machinist part time. I then became specialized in metallurgy and welding production manufacturing processes. I remained doing that for another 14 years. I then turned the page and became a fabrication consultant for another 6 years before I finished up some testing to become a welding inspector until I retired. ( I was still consulting at the same time) this was all with the same company and was never laid off

  27. Not trying to crap on Milwaukee here, but I am just curious about tools that people have owned that didn't turn out so good? For me, I wasn't impressed with their M12 Vac or the original M18 blower. The blower was okay, but in my opinion that vacuum was terrible... it struggled with even the smallest of tasks, in my opinion. FB82

  28. There's a ton of manufacturers for split systems, the reason that Mitsubishi is so popular is because they keep their parts and systems very much the same for years and have good warranties, but you pay out the ass for that and the name. They're a bit like John Deere in that regard, you don't always get what you pay for in the long run but many also swear by the brand. YMMV. The top of the list for this category for me is Mitsubishi, LG, Pioneer, Fridrick, and Fujitsu. If appearance is a concern, there's no other choice but LG, they make the most attractive systems IMO and many agree.

  30. I used it and it's pretty good. First tip is always fill it just with water only so when you run it, you can check for leaks and tighten what needs tightening. Once you hit the power button it stays on, motor runs continuously. Once adjusted it sprayed out a nice flow. Overall it's pretty good. The only downside is that 1 gallon capacity sure goes quick. Good buy. I'm also wanting the cordless hot glue gun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. Oh man what a sweet thing. No seriously, it looks so small and cute [emoji16] It's really what I've been waiting for so it's a no-brainer for me if it finds it way to EU. Guess we will know more once it's officially released. Nice find Bremon [emoji119] Skickat från min SGP511 via Tapatalk

  33. I had the original milwaukee m18 grinder. I didn't realize how much the Fuel version outclassed it until I bought the fuel. Granted, it lasted me a long time, but the battery run time was not good. The Fuel version is infinitely better.

  35. I agree with @jkeating3, my only DS400 is for nailers. I may get one at some point for hand tools or something, but the DS400 is 100mm taller than the DS300; 4 inches. It takes up more space in a stack, a truck, a van, a shed, etc. I try to be as lean as possible with my boxes; planning what's going in well before buying them lol. DS300 is perfect for a saw I feel.

  36. Lol ya it works great wen makes good products I have been looking at the band saws that they offer also.

  37. I'm probably going to end up getting one of each. Home Depot has a $20 off deal for Dewalt purchases of $100 or more. I probably would have just got the 400 if Bremon hadn't commented about the 300 because I would rather have a box that is too large than one that is too small.
    1 point
  38. That's great to know. I don't think I'm going to have all that many accessories, probably just extra blades so if you have all of that in a 300 then it definitely will work for me.

  39. The videos (A Concord Carpenter's) are what changed my mind and justified the price. I hope they come out with boxes with drawers.

  40. Thanks it is nice to show off some projects sometimes. It came out better then the vision I had in my head so that's a bonus it is just a harbor freight router but it works well for me and for 50 dollars with coupon I had to try it lol

  41. I keep mine in a DS300 with a rip fence, speed square, vac attachment, and another half a dozen blade. Only difference between it in a 300 and 400 is a tray above the saw that does very little for me; there's already room around the saw for accessories.
    1 point
  42. I guess I would always error on the side of caution? I think either will do, but if you want to store additional accessories, like you said then maybe the larger box? Also, online the price difference on them is about $11.00 American dollars. So for that, I am definitely going with the 400. FB82

  43. I can't stand the stupid bags DeWalt's using these days, I actually like the plastic cases, when they do include them, I can't speak to the fit for ToughSystem but in my opinion I'd recommend the larger, more room for blades etc.

  46. I just talked to a friend of mine from another forum that does a lot of the same stuff I do. We have a "made in michigan" fair coming up in the end of September. I think we are going to rent a booth and try to sell some of our stuff. I'm pretty excited to try this out. I guess I have to step up my production and start creating some inventory.

  47. Mrs. Conductor came to the realization years ago that parking a car in our garage was a pipe dream. When it's cold, I go start her car for her. It's well worth the sacrifice. Once in awhile she gets pissy about something totally unrelated and gives me the "(insert random friend) doesn't have half the garage we do and she gets to park in it!" To which I usually make some degrading comment about random friend's husband's questionable manhood due to his lack of excessive amounts of tools and forget about it.

  49. So I am really wanting to make some sort of miter station. My shop area isn't exactly the biggest for this. My area of the garage is in front of my truck. When working on a project my truck is usually outside if I'm using the table saw or an assembly table. My actual work bench is in an L configuration. I am wondering how much room I really need for material length for the miter saw. I could either put it just off center of the back wall giving me around 5' from wall to saw. The left side would give me more length but I wouldn't have a measuring tape on that side since that is where my table saw, planer, and an exterior door is if needed. Or I could put the saw on the right side where it is in the pics. Giving me about 5' to the left of the saw. I could put a fold down wing to the right and use a roller stand if needed. If I needed anything longer than 5 ft I could just use a circular saw. Also what I was thinking is I could put the saw and drill press on the back wall. Leave the drill press where it is at but I would lower the base into the bench just like the saw would be. This maximizes space since there wouldn't be a measuring system for the saw on that side. Thoughts? Here are some pics. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
