    Squaring

What is the best way to square up a board with minimal tools or another way to put it is, what is the bare minimum tools needed to accurately square up a board in length, width, and thickness? If you go hand tool route? If you go power tool route?
  2. Because of an unwritten rule I will not be voting for myself.
  3. Well heres my entry. These guys make some great music videos. Clean as well.
  4. @comp56 oh wow thats cool. It even has depth set as well. Say I use this drill block and I need to go deeper than the block will allow. Once the hole is started can I remove the block and expect a straight hole the rest of the way? Any ideas on how to keep my cuts square with my planer or does it just take practice? Would using the planer edge guide help?
  5. I don't understand the drill block. I drill in the corner?
  6. For starters this project wasn't intended to be pretty. It just needed to do the job which was provide a guide for testing which drill bit I would need for any particular screw I would need to drill a hole for. Mostly made it to test out my 20v planer and multitool. Break em in I suppose. haha. I did enjoy using them but still was disappointed with the final product. First, I cut 2 pieces off a board with my multitool. I thought It worked well and decently straight. Second, I got my drill bit set out and started drilling holes for each size of bit. I noticed as a tried to make the holes fairly evenly spaced, for the exit holes this was not the case. My drill wasn't straight is my guess. Drilling straight without a drill press is hard. Third, I labeled the size of bit I used for each hole. Fourth, I screwed the boards together. I went overkill with 8 screws but just means I used my impact 4 extra times than I needed. haha. Fifth, I planed the edges. This was the most disappointing part about the whole project. It smoothed the joints decently well but were they square? of course they weren't. As you can see in the picture it looks as though the planer wasn't completely flat on the wood. I was hopping the planer could've been a way to plane down boards at least temporarily before I save up for an actual jointer and thickness planer but if it's going to be out of square all the time it may have been a waste of money to buy the planer. Anyone got any suggestions to make future projects more square and drilling less angled? Side view showing out of square Front view showing drilled holes Back view showing exits of each hole is not evenly spaced as well as the front.
  7. @Jaybird I would try out the makita. It seemed like the best all around 12v tool. Light, compact, powerful, efficient, and ergonomic. @kornomaniac what is OP?
  8. yeah I like his new livestreams.
  9. I wish he did more videos like this. his woodworking videos are great but they are far and few between.
  10. yeah I'm not gonna cut corners or go "cheap". There are the occasional hidden gems out there but from personal experience cheap furniture tends to not hold up well so I'm not gonna take any chances. Nice design. Is the grid for making the top more rigid?
  11. For starters it will be used to build end tables. So usage would be assembly, small power/hand tool usage, staining, etc. It will eventually be used for bigger and/or more complex projects as my skill develops. The issue I find with many tables is they have x features and only x features unless you do some modifications via cutting, rebuilding, etc. Some have too many features and others don't have enough. I want mine to be easily modifiable without permanently changing the table. Lets say I start out with a table then decide I need a router table or table with feature y. All I gotta do is make an extension/attachment connected via the cleats. I can add or remove the attachment with feature y on demand. Before I start my work, I can within 5 to 10 mins pull out the table, figure out what attachments I need for the day, and install them on the cleats, and I would be ready to work. At the end of the day I can remove the attachments and put then back where they are stored then move the table back in the corner where it would be stored.
  12. @Conductor562 seeing as you have an apple device you may want to look into an apple tv. Apple devices tend to work well together. It's got an app store with plenty of apps, large selection of tv and movie content from netflix, sling, apple, and many more, has siri, and is a hub for homekit enabled smart devices. I am sure the amazon fire stick is great but I don't know how well it works with apple devices. Another option to consider is the Roku.
  13. It was an easy mistake on my part. I wont post anything insights stuff again. We can just talk about the stuff after they come out.
  14. @rrmccabe it doesn't have to be disassembled. Could be another idea to think about where my top could be swapable with various different tops with various different functions. Thanks for the link @SetBuilder
  15. I removed the screenshot but left the post. Hopefully it should be less of an issue now.
  16. I guess I missed this. Should I takes this down?
  17. you have to sign up for DeWALT Insights.
  18. It wants to know what could be improved or changed. This is a hard one. Also appears to have faster charging than the other power station. 4 4.0's in 1 hours seems faster I think.
  19. I'm not sure but it is in a new insights survey.

  21. well this might be a thing. Portable power station meets tough system.
  22. cool. Didn't know if 3 vacs a third the size of a big guy would be as good as one big guy. Thanks for the info. What is the cyclone? Is cyclone the same as hepa?
