  1. Wow! just had the best customer service hands down ever. Nothing else even comes close. I bought some gloves online from Baseline Equipment Company and they took the time to have a real guy call me to personally thank me for my order. He could have easily just sent me an email because it was an online order but no he put in the extra effort to call. He mentioned that the gloves weren't available and took the time to not just suggest a different pair of gloves but called the gloves company to check on availability. He said they won't be available until March but said I could buy one size larger and have them within a few days and even said he couldn't resist mentioning that he liked my email.
  2. @jtkendall how have you liked your new Ironclad gloves? Do your hands stay warm? Do they seem quality? I'm looking at getting some for myself cause it has been cold and windy out and the gloves I own aren't doing justice. I am probably going to upgrade to a Cold Condition Waterproof or the Tundra but figured I would ask about your thoughts on the Summit Reflective.

    Track Saws

@bee-man A plunge saw has its place and I suggest getting one but like @ChrisK has said it is not a table saw replacement. I would say it more complimentary to a table saw. They do the same or similar functions but certain functions are safer on one saw vs the other. when I am ripping down lumber I would use a table saw. Many times the lumber is not as wide as the guide rail and I'm not sure how easy it would be to cut with a plunge saw. If your talking plywood then the plunge saw is your friend. I personally wouldn't want to manhandle a 4x8 piece of plywood on my tiny job site table saw. It is harder and more dangerous than cutting smaller boards. The plunge saw will cut the plywood safer and easier than the table saw. As long as most of the guide rail is supported either by the workpiece your cutting or other means and the workpiece is secure during the cut then the tracksaw would be fine for most cuts. How have you been cutting narrow pieces? I'm thinking lumber that is maybe less than 3 inches.

    Track Saws

@rrich1 @ChrisK Marc from wood whisperer did a video on the Grizzly and doing his best to not unfairly favor his Festool stuff over the Grizzly he definitely found it fell short of the Festool especially in cut quality. He also reviewed the DeWALT and found it was comparable to the Festool especially in cut quality. When compared to a standard circular saw Marc said the Grizzly cut was basically night and day compared to the standard circular saw. If you want better cuts than a normal circular saw then the Grizzly is better but you will find it is not as good as DeWALT, Festool, and other higher end track saws.
  5. those projects look excellent @Jpgwoodworking you did a very nice job. I have generally not been a fan of pallet wood stuff but that pallet wood wall actually looks nice. It has a quality and professional feel to it that you typically don't think about when you think of pallet wood projects.
  6. Craftsman is the first company I think of when I think brand loyalty especially with "ole timers" age 50+ Back in the day a guy bought Craftsman because it was a quality product. When the switch was made to China, the quality suffered. My dad tends to buy craftsman and I have experienced the quality drop. Our early 2000's string trimmer was built well and lasted a good 10 years or more. It was still going strong until I forgot it at the county grass dump and went back a few mins later to find it gone. The replacement lasted a year maybe 2 and the build wasn't as good as the older trimmer. One thing guys say, "it is made out of plastic therefore it is not high quality". The old trimmer I had was a good example. It used some plastic and the plastic components did not fail. If those components were all steel it would weigh a ton and would be more tiresome to use. "Made with global materials" means just that the product is made with global materials. It does not mean the materials are low quality nor does it mean they are high quality. It does not say country of origin, how it was acquired or anything about the material. The only thing you know about the material is it came from a country other than the country to process the material into a product. I also understand it NOT to be "made with global parts" but only "made with global materials". To me it suggest parts are not manufactured elsewhere. I see it as the material in raw or mostly raw form shipped to the plant for the plant to do the processing. I could be wrong. Maybe some components are built elsewhere like leds, screws, etc. but I don't understand it to be that way. Sometimes I feel people think if it has "made in USA with global materials" it means the motor is built in one country, the plastic and rubber shell is built in another country, the motherboard is built in a third country, and then the components are shipped to the states just to get joined together with a couple screws by a worker in a USA plant. I don't mind where my tools come from as long as they are quality tools. I avoid "diy", "homeowner", and "el cheapo" brands. Have I gotten any el cheapo brands? yes. The last el cheapo thing I got was a cheap drill powered drain snake. My first hand tools were el cheapos. In the case of the snake I did not see the need to fork out the extra money for the 20v drain snake if at most I will only use it a couple times a year. Also I'm no plumber so spending only 20 bux on a snake and having it break due never using a snake before/improper use vs $200+ and having it break was another reason for cheaping out. These cases will be rare since I have such high tastes in tools.
  7. Looks like a Canadian show this week. Sounds like new DeWALT stuff will be there.
  8. there are quite a few variables like @BMack37 mentioned that you would have to take into consideration. But in general the thin walled socket is going to be weaker than the thick wall.
  9. Well I kinda guessed but I think 2000 is a more accurate number. I did some figuring and I figured that with my current schedule I average 2000. I'd say I average one long distance trip a year. My mechanic told me the other day I should drive my car more. I was having some starting issues and he thought lack of driving may be part of the issue. I tend to either not go much of anywhere or I am with my parents in their vehicle.
  10. to clarify the new guy in the Tia youtube videos is @tugnut1 ?
  11. He did do a Makita x2 string trimmer review once
  12. My mechanic told me once every 6 months is enough. I am probably going to be averaging 1000 miles a year now since I am done with school.
  13. 2008 Honda Civic LX Sedan. Automatic transmission. 1.8-liter, 140-hp i-VTEC four-cylinder engine
  14. @Wally13 what do you suggest for a vehicle that isn't kept in a garage? My dad always said you should go start the vehicle when it is cold to let it warm up but whether the car is moving or not the pistons are still moving and the oil is still cold. I'm not sure what oil my car uses. I have a local guy work on my car.
  15. NAHB International Builders show this week. I think toolaholic is covering the event. Also CES this week too.

    Remember When?

remember when computers had a disc drive. remember when internet used the phone line. remember when phones were indestructible. remember when compact pickup trucks were a thing. remember when tools didn't use lithium ion batteries. remember when tools were all metal and weighed a ton. remember when airplanes didn't have tv screens on every chair. remember when movies were on vhs. remember when tvs weren't flat. remember when your favorite snack had 2 maybe 3 different flavors and not 2 dozen remember when you couldn't order tools online. remember when houses had ugly shag carpet. remember when you had to get out of the vehicle to open the garage.
  17. a flex 9.0/3.0 on paper should give the impact wrench the most power. It has bigger cells like the 20v 6.0 and an extra 5 cells like the flex 6.0/2.0
  18. I wonder if we will ever get the Tstak compatible bit boxes like Europe is getting. I like my gen one FlexTorq. They are much nicer than the El cheapos guys tend to buy. The metal seems a lot more durable. They don't wear like cheaper bits. I haven't used the MaxFit bits but I seen a guy at work got a set not too long ago. I might try out some higher quality bits but my one FlexTorq bit set and one Stanley 10 bit ratcheting screwdriver get me by for everything I have needed bits for.

    MobileLock

I would have to agree Milwaukee tick has been on the market longer than tags. Will the companies ever work together on cross compatibility support? I'm not sure.
  20. @BMack37 @T75R I considered upgrading my 4 to a X but I decided to wait. Gonna wait for the second gen X in September. I think I might hold the title for oldest phone in the Tia crew haha.

    MobileLock

@Jpgwoodworking those are some great ideas. I like the idea about anyone with bluetooth being able to send location of a tag, tick, etc. Doesn't seem very useful if the average guy might have a competitor bluetooth tracker app or no app at all. To have competitors apps work would take a software update I would guess but for any device with bluetooth to work would take more work I would think. I could easily see the tool connect app supporting the gps alarm. Would be a simple software update I would think. The app already has tracking features so adding a gps device shouldn't be too difficult.
  22. @fm2176 the cart at over 3000 euros is expensive but looks like it is not only the boxes but a full set of tools too. Would be nice for the guy who wants to buy once and have just about everything he needs.
  23. I didn't see the boxes available for purchase.

    2x20V lawn mower

Steel decks on cordless mowers are increasingly rare. To have a steel deck on both models is nice.
  25. I agree except I can't get the lock switch change out of my mind.
