I think Liebherr has mods like that for some of their equipment they offer. I guess it also helps the operator get a better vantage point of the material they are loading. This seems like a much cooler use of it! After working on ADA curb ramp compliance on several projects, I never realized how big of an ordeal it was for someone in a wheelchair to get around. Definitely an eye opener.

His government paid for the modification, not his boss.

The modification was done by Nasta Special Productions in coordination with NAV who financed the modification in order for him to gain employment.

According to the article the operator was paralyzed in a traffic accident in 2006. He is now 26 years old and the Norwegian government branch NAV has paid for his education and the modification to the excavator. Its not likely that such an modification would be profitable for the company in it self, but in a society where the state otherwise would have paid him money for the rest of his life since he cant work, it might be profitable for the society to give him an education and modify the excavator.
