Well not as bad as the "fix" gm had for my grand prix it's known to have issues with valve covers leaking the front valve cover the worst as its transversely mounted V6. It was bad enough that they were having engine fires so gm had a recall the fix was to change the way the spark plug wires ran and not fix the problem of the oil leak on the non GTP supercharged cars the supercharged cars did get new gaskets. One of the things that drive you nuts about automakers!!! It's sad to see her slowly die the heart is in good shape but the body is failing it needs a new front wheel bearing bad, and the shocks on the back replaced, I don't have a "shop" to work in during the winter so repairs are more expensive.

This one was as close to burning as one could get. The exhaust manifold wan cherry red and then it blew spewing oil everywhere. My uncle thought he was going to have to watch it burn. The front fenders have holes rusted in them big enough to fit your arm into. The rocker panels are gone. The truck used to belong to a local drilling company and it spent most of its life behind the drill rig going to Arkansas back and forth. It has been behind the rig so much that the chrome is gone off of the bumper.

We have the brakes ready now, the front end is painted and ready to go except we need new bearing races for the wheel bearings. The interior guy has started on the interior, so far he has the door panels and headliner done. We should have the emergency brake ready by tomorrow, we need it to get the truck registered for the NSRA.

We finally have dads truck running now. It smokes like a freight train due to the oil everywhere. It was one thing after another with it. The fuel pump went out on it, the new pump wouldn't fit so we had to get yet another one. The starter went out this evening as we were almost done. It should be good now though. Next for that is to see why the old engine puffed.

The head liner is installed and the rest of the interior should be in by the end of the week. Next week is supposed to be in the 50s so we will paint the frame and rear end hopefully. We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. After that all that is left will be the window cranks and door handles which we will pick up Sunday, the engine, transmission, wiring and, plumbing the fuel and brakes.

That's great to hear. I don't know about restoring old cars but can you wire the doors to have "modern" tech like electric windows, door locks and even motorized mirrors?

You could do it, but if you ever plan to show the car you're sunk. Shows are all about being true to original. Plus, it's not going to be a daily driver. Lack of modern convenience is all part of the experience.

Umm... You haven't seen an original compared to this one yet. Mag wheels weren't original, nor the small block or the 3 inch chop of the cab. If it was an original it would be a big no on the power windows. For the sake of keeping it simple we are keeping manual windows.

The interior is almost done. All that is left is to put the door panels in and the seats and that is it for the interior. It looks great so far. It was the upholstery guys last car that he was doing. All that is left is to paint the frame and rear end and put new gaskets and the cam and valve train in the engine and put the new heads on and then wire it up (aftermarket wiring harness) and that will be all of the big items done.
