Craigh9916
I don't disagree, but at least you can use them on the 20V tools so it's not a completely new platform, but yes 60V tools will be a new platform....It's nice to see some bigger badder tools but at the expense of convenience. But honestly think this would make someone look at Milwaukee/Makita a little harder when deciding on a platform Yes I agree it doesn't make the 20v line any different but you might consider a few 60v tools for the extra power ! I would buy one of them even though I'm invested in bosch and metabo and I can't use the 60v batteries In my other tools but people with the dewalt 20v can Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
midogrumpy
DeWALT Flexvolt well, it´s out now AMAZING there will be many more comments/hints/news/updates ad more products added in this category I did not study marketing, I´m often unorganized but I would like to ask moderators and the group to bring some kind of structure to the future posts all hints / wishes / suggestions welcome my suggestion a kind of directory/topic stucture hence dewalt flexvolt - compatability new 60v tools each tool a own directory / title eg.. - grinder - alligator (might be a Europe thing) - impact hammer - tablesaw - chargers - chainsaw - led etc. what you guys think ?? 2) I do have some more teasers ! - there will be a vacuum available in August - dual port charger cheers mike

BigRed
There's a couple things that are gonna keep me from the flexvolt system. 1. The new 60v battery platform. 2. Battery operated power tools are supposed to be easily portable and I personally won't be to keen on moving a big miter saw around so a simple cord would be fine for me. 3. Is the 20v adaption basically a giant heavy bulky battery? Because to me that's just added weight to the drill.
JimboS1ice
So am I understanding this correctly, they have come out with yet ANOTHER battery platform? This is one of the reasons why I ditched DeWalt to begin with. Others started to settle on one platform while DeWalt was still selling two styles of 18V batteries and tools. As far as voltage, it means nothing without the amp hours to back it up. Which is why i suspect Milwaukee put out their comparison pictured above. My frustrations exactly Jimbo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ChrisK
Well don't worry guys, @wildroamer and I will keep you up to date on the pure unadulterated power of the new recip.
JimboS1ice
The only flex volt I would consider would be appropriate cord replacement tools like the table and miter, those things are pretty brilliant, power supply too is good Jimbo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well I bet the 18v xrp line is officially going to be killed off soon. Dewalt still might make OEM batteries but that's about it. New production tools and such will end. wildroamer
Are we pretty sure at this point there won't be a new 20 V recip, just the flex volt? How about a brushless jig saw?

Marcv76
For the people that are complaining about the size of the battery here is a size comparison of the current dewalt 20v 5ah and the newest Metabo 18v 6.2ah. Metabo is the current leader in 18v battery tech and had to go bigger because of the cells being used. The extra size is not that big of a deal. That being said I am stoked at what Dewalt has done because you can only squeak so much power out of a 18v. Metabos are at the top and they are not a corded replacement yet. The higher voltage batteries are the future if you want corded power and the ability to still use them in 20v tools is awesome. Some tools will be unnecessary in 60v form so thats why they won't abandon the 20v line. Their idea is that you will have the power on big tools and the longevity on smaller tools. Is there a need for a 60v caulking gun? exactly!! I know everyone wants corded power in a battery the size of a watch battery, that will work in all tools. Unless a spacecraft crashes and gives up unforeseen alien technology, this is the current progression that needs to happen.

midogrumpy
please note: don´t be confused 60V max is 54Volt max in Europe they are IDENTICAL, just a marketing scheme Published in Europe today: the Alligator saw DCS397 to add in one more SDS Hammerdrill http://futurejobsite.dewalt.co.uk/products/sds-plus-hammer-drill PLEASE note: they also speak of the 9,0ah battery pack ! shown in picture !!!

midogrumpy
moderators ! please create a structure as suggested above ! individual tool structure within flexvolt ! I do not want to post pictures of a dual port charger or vacuum cleaner here ! yes ! they will be available !
JerryNY
Some really interesting stuff from Dewalt but not sure how they're going to handle some things. If you double the voltage of a battery pack you halve its Ah rating, simple physics. So a 20v 5Ah pack would become a 40v 2.5Ah. There's a reason ope packs are so large to begin with. In theory a 20v 5Ah pack and a 40v 2.5Ah do the same exact amount of work because the energy stored in the pack is the same. While it is interesting and cool what Dewalts done I'm not sure they've over complicated their whole platform with introducing a new thing. It should be interesting to see what all these tools can do though. It seems like it's been a while since they've dumped an assload of new stuff all at once for the market to digest so hats off to them.

I can understand the higher voltage for use of a given size wire and amp draw. For everything else it is basically just marketing. With the electronics in the tools these days, they could take an 18v pack and pump the power up internal to the tool. One thing I don't understand is why they would want to go over the low voltage limitations and be subject to even tougher and more stringent laws regarding voltages. (do those laws cover battery power, or just AC current?)

midogrumpy
and here I don´t want to talk about batteries with more than 100wh that are categorized as CLASS 9 Hazordous goods requires specialist dangerous goods shipping = expensive any why Dewalt flexvolt DOES NOT have to be categorized like this posts and more info like this will get lost in a single thread ! I want an individual forum/topic category cheers mike

StrippedScrew
So many goodies coming out, Was going to jump ship to Makita but I think i hang on that bit longer I got my eye on that new recip saw and the circular saw.
overanalyze
I was pumped for this event 2 days ago with the hope of more than just the 60V platform and we got more...but I do still want/need a smaller 6-1/2" circular saw and I would prefer a brushless, left blade model. I was really hoping it would have been part of this release. Now the cordless metal hanger nailer looks sweet!!!
